They call their musical style "northern hyperblast" after an advertisement in M.E.A.T. magazine. The ad described another band, Fear Factory, as "hyperblast", referring to the extremely fast blast beats that their drummer, Max Duhamel, fuses into the music.[1] Kataklysm is well known for their incorporation of movie-quote samples in their music.[2] These include: The intro "Revenge is a meal best served cold" of the song "Like Angels Weeping (the Dark)" from the album In the Arms of Devastation is taken from the movie Man on Fire. The intro "This is the life we chose, the life we lead. And there is only one guarantee. None of us will see Heaven" of the song "Ambassador of Pain" from the album Serenity in Fire is taken from the movie Road to Perdition. The intro "Ultimately, we're all dead men. Sadly, we cannot choose how, but we can decide how we meet that end, in order that we are remembered, as men." of the song "In Shadows and Dust" from the album Shadows & Dust is taken from the movie Gladiator. The intro "Pain has a face. Allow me to show it to you." from "Il Diavolo In Me" on Epic - The Poetry of War album is taken from the movie Hellraiser: Bloodline. In the album "Epic: The Poetry of War", in the song "Manipulator of Souls" there's a verse that says "We will tear your soul apart" and is taken from the movie Hellraiser I The intro "First there was darkness, then came the strangers. They were a race as old as time itself. They had mastered the ultimate technology; the ability to alter physical reality by will alone. They called this ability 'tuning'. But they were dying. Their civilization was in decline. And so they abandoned their world, seeking a cure for their own mortality. Their endless journey brought them to a small blue world in the farthest corner of the galaxy... Our world. Here they had thought they had finally found what they were searching..." of the song "1999-6661-2000" from the album The Prophecy is taken from the movie Dark City. BIOGRAPHY: Kataklysm was formed in 1992. At the beginning of their career they were mostly known for being one of the fastest, most chaotic metal bands. However, their music changed after Sylvain Houde left the band, and bassist/backing vocalist Maurizio Iacono took over Houde's vocal duties, and another full-time bassist was recruited. In 1998, the band released Victims of This Fallen World, an album which was noted as being a change in musical style from previous albums. The following album The Prophecy (Stigmata of the Immaculate), however, saw the band return to its previous style, though less chaotic and with a touch of melodic death metal. Drummer Max Duhamel is said to have been forced out of the band because of injuries. Eventually, Duhamel recovered from his injuries and participated on Kataklysm's ninth album, In the Arms of Devastation. Kataklysm's line-up has remained relatively stable compared to many other bands within the metal genre. The band only has one missing original member, Sylvain Houde. Drummers make out most of the band's "former members" list. The band is currently finishing a new album entitled Prevail, which is set for completion during mid-2007. It is set for release in April 2008. 4 new songs have said to have been written so far, including a song with the same name as the album - "Prevail".
